I know some of you (if anyone actually reads this eventually) are wondering who the heck Caleigh is and where I got the name. Well, Caleigh is my border collie/Australian Shepherd mix “fur baby”. I have to warn you…this post maybe a long one, longer than you may want to read about a dog.
Doug and I still kind of have “his and hers” dogs…because they came into the relationship with us, we still see them as his and hers. While I love his dog dearly, we just don’t have that special connection Caleigh and I do. I got Caleigh in 2005 when I moved to Fort Worth right after college. My parents had taken ownership of the dog I had in college, Sammie, who was slightly too crazy to live in a small apartment with no backyard and occasional visitors. Now, if you know me, you know that it it breaks my heart and is almost impossible to drive past a stray dog without wanting to go pick it up and make sure it is in a safe home. So naturally I went to the local pound, which was still tough because I wanted to take them all home. But there she was, in one of the very last kennels I came to, with such a sweet face and her wagging tail. I decided to take her right then and there, especially because there was another family who had to go home to think about it with her. She was 6 months old, and already the size she is now.
We had several run-ins over the next couple years with having to be locked up in a kennel in a small apartment in the city. The first of which was when I first brought her home and didn’t yet have a kennel so I put her in the bathroom while I ran an errand. When I came home, I saw black smudge marks on the carpet just under the door of the bathroom. When I opened the door I found a blank covered dog, chewed up cabinets and black soaked tile. She had managed to get into my cabinet, into a drawer that I randomly happened to have stamp ink in…and ate the ink bottle. Shes a little too smart for her own good sometime (even though I wouldn’t consider eating ink smart…but managing to find it, I have no idea how she did that).
Moving to Marshall with a big backyard to run and play in and a new dog to have by her side was the best thing that has ever happened to her. She is a little hyper at times, and probably one of the most talkative dogs you will ever meet. You will know right away if she is hungry or wants your attention…because she talks to you. She loves to sit in the comfy recliner (her and Doug always have to fight for it). And most of all she loves to snuggle, it is her favorite thing to do. Most mornings when I get out of bed, she jumps right up in the place where I was laying. As you can see by the above picture…which I am sure Doug may kill me for (sorry babe). She also very much loves Doug, even though he tries to act like he likes Emily a million times more…
As for the reason she is blue in the logo…well we saw a painting in Carmel, CA and thought it looked exactly like her. I wish we could have bought that darn painting. This post wouldn’t be complete without a couple of pictures of her partner in crime, Emily. Who is usually either sniffing around the kitchen waiting for something to fall on the ground…
Or lounging on “her couch” watching Caleigh run around in circles….she is probably on the complete opposite end of the spectrum from Caleigh.
I warned you, it was a long post about our dogs…they entertain us, and love us unconditionally! We love our pups!
