Firstly, let me say that I am sorry I failed to keep my promise of having this to you this weekend! I have been waiting and waiting for this service to become available in my area of Texas and it finally is. If you haven’t heard of Blue Apron, please let me fill you in because it is a total lifesaver, especially for weeknight meals. I am the absolute worst person at the grocery store for sticking to my list. Someone mentioned to me the other day that they can’t stand how their Mother goes through the store because she has to peruse every aisle. I was like, ummmmmmm yeah so do I. I can’t help it. The problem with that is, I end up throwing away a lot of food in a week or two that doesn’t end up being eaten, especially fresh produce. I get very over zealous on what I’m going to accomplish in the kitchen for the week.
This is where Blue Apron comes in and saves the day, and a lot of wasted food. They are a box service you with a weekly subscription. Two options, either (3) 2 person meals a week or if you are feeding more mouths, you can get meals for 4 people 3 or 4 days of the week. They overnight the food to you along with step by step recipe cards, which are awesome. They send you everything from the meat to garlic to butter and perfectly measured for exactly how much you need. No waste. Each meal is very generous, between 500-700 calories a serving. It is all fresh, food so you’re not making anything out of a box and getting processed ingredients. I absolutely love that all of the ingredients they use are farm-fresh and from family run businesses.
Delivery is free, you choose the day of the week for it to be delivered and you can always skip a week if you have other plans or it doesn’t fit the budget. What I really like about it, is for the food you get, it ends up costing less than $10 a person per meal. Even if I went to the store to get all the ingredients I would spend more than that. It makes sense and is so convenient!
The other factor that I personally loved is it made me cook outside the box. All three meals were items I had never made before, with flavors I don’t typically use and/or have a hard time finding in small town Texas. All three meals were darn tasty too! My first meal was Seared Steak with mashed potatoes and snap peas with radish. I can admit, this was the first time I ever cooked a steak and the first time I’ve even used radishes. It was so tasty. I may have overcooked the lemon sauce that went on the steak but it really revved the flavor!
The other meals included cod with potatoes and chicken meatballs with an Asian flare! Never made either dish before in my life. They were fantastic and easier than I ever thought they would have been. They keep on their recipes on their online cookbook, which is wonderful in case I want to recreate a meal in the future. I highly highly recommend this service. It has been such a wonderful thing to bring into our house weekly!

A free box was provided to me in return for this post. I was not compensated. All opinions and words are 100% my own. I only talk about brands I believe in and use personally here on Caleigh’s Kitchen.
