I apologize, as I have no “Friday Faves” for you. My evenings have been spent unpacking boxes upon boxes and trying to get my kitchen set up. I really cannot wait to get back to cooking and baking. Especially in my shiny new kitchen with pretty new appliances! I still cannot believe we’re in honestly. We’re still getting settled and unpacked, but it feels so good to call it ours. Well, mostly. The front and back yard is somewhat of a clay pit with several small ponds. That will happen if it ever stops raining and dries out enough! Our neighbors probably think we just decided to forgo grass to save on mowing duties. Soon. I hope.
I’m going to try to spare you a million pictures, I made a couple collages to condense the post :-). I know food is my main focus of this blog, but this is whats exciting and consuming my life right now. Plus, we’re very proud of the house we created! I realize it’s probably not everyone’s style, but we are pretty fond of it.
Above, our main living room. I’ve already had a few comments about not having a ceiling fan in the living room and living in Texas. We really wanted a statement piece in there. I knew from day one I wanted an orb light fixture somewhere, so thanks to Doug’s suggestion, it went in the middle of the house. And I kind of love it. The fireplace was a replica of one I found on Houzz and we kept going back to. It was a winner.
I also saw this arch design for the entry way and formal dining room. I love that its open without being completely open. I also love the lighting in our dining space! Actually I love the lighting we picked throughout the entire house.
We went to a local light gallery and the lady who helped us was phenomenal in finding just what we wanted. I had pictures and ideas of what I wanted to put and where, and she just kept on trucking for hours until she found the perfect match. The lanterns over our kitchen counters are my other favorite. It took some convincing for Doug to be on board with it, and he’s glad he let me take the reins!
Now the kitchen was my baby. I absolutely love how it came together. Love. Love. Love. The cabinets are perfect, and I love the pullouts we included for trash, utensils and spices. Lots of storage space for all my cooking needs, plus LOTS of counter space. Looking forward to really getting going in there!
Speaking of storage…Storage is probably the main reason we wanted a new house. Our previous home was built in the 30s and my closet was the size of a shoe box. We were tired of having no space. When we did the layout, we actually turned the half bath into a pantry / storm room (bottom right above). My cookbooks, small appliances, baking needs…everything is fitting in there nicely. With another small pantry in the kitchen for everyday basics. Oh, and my closet, so far so good (pictures on the left sides above). Much better than the tiny closet I had before. Doug has his own as well, so we’re good to go on space!
We chose to go with a different kind of tray ceiling for our room. Which meant no crown in there, but I like the uniqueness and open feel of it. Funny enough, after I chose it, I realized it was the same style and color of my in-laws room we were living in while the house was built!
This picture above of the master bedroom really showcases our floors. I really like how they turned out. They’re vinyl plank but feel and look like real wood, and are durable for our dogs and kiddo! Also super easy to replace just one if something happens.
Moving into our master bathroom. Another area we wanted a lot of space, and a tub because our previous house didn’t have one in the master. I included a salon pullout in my vanity but the verdict is still out on if it was worth it. I like that it’s a little different color scheme and vibe than the rest of the house.
Princess Kirkley also loves her room. Another area where people have noticed no ceiling fan…but they make really nice oscillating fans now a days. I mean, what little girl wouldn’t love a pretty chandelier in their lavender room. I can’t wait to show y’all this room with the furniture and decorations in it. It’s really cute and fitting of little miss.
Her bathroom turned out really good too. The granite in here is similar to the kitchen, but it looks so good. One mirror is still on back order, but it will soon be complete
I almost forgot, we converted the 4th bedroom into a playroom. Woo hoo for more space for her toys :-)!
That’s it in a nutshell. I forgot to take pictures of the kitchen nook which is to the left of the above picture, the laundry room and the garage. Once it’s all decorated completely, I’ll do another small “tour”. I promise to post a recipe soon. I’ve got some Malvi Marshmallows calling my name to bake with!
Have a good weekend friends! Please comment below with your thoughts!
